Flight Demonstration by the Arvada Associated Modelers
Saturday, August 18 at 3-5 & 7 PM
The Arvada Associated Modelers club has an active roster of over 260 members ranging in age from 10 to 80. Each member has their favorite type of plane that he or she models as well as flies. Smaller “park flyer” types will be featured at the Festival but there is another category called “scale buffs” which can be quite large.
The type of planes is almost endless from pre WWI to present day military as well as the full spectrum of civilian types. Size is also a consideration as they can be as small as micro flyers to those with over a 20 foot wingspan and are made from various materials including balsa, plywood, composite, fiberglass and Styrofoam. Expect to see several types of planes including a helicopter.
Model airplanes are very capable of extreme aerobatics and what is called 3D flying. The 3D flying is putting an airplane into flight treating it as if it were a helicopter with numerous twists and turns and difficult gyrations. Modelers fly them primarily for the thrill of controlling them and putting them through their paces. It’s also very satisfying to fly a model that you personally hand built realizing at the same time that someone flew a real one during combat or the real plane draws your admiration.
Check out our website concerning location and free flight training and other activities including our free air show in September and our involvement with the community.
